Jan's husband and two sons dubbed her "The Crazy Dog Lady" in January 1997, shortly after she adopted her 3rd large breed dog from a local shelter -- a Rottweiler pup she named Bogey. Jan began making traditional pieced and appliquéd quilts in 1994 and soon began making animal quilts and breed silhouette quilts. She now specializes in quilted animal portraits of dogs, cats, horses, birds, rabbits and has even done several people! While making and selling her quilts, she has worked in animal related fields, such as:

Animal Control Officer

Assistant Manager of a Speciality Pet Supply Store

Volunteer Coordinator at her local animal shelter

Director of another local animal humane society/shelter

Pet Sitter and member of Pet Sitters International

Receptionist at her local animal hospital

Jan and her work appeared on the cable TV show Creatively Speaking, hosted
by author and toy dog expert, Darlene Arden. Darlene also included Jan's work
in her book "Unbelievably Good Deals and Great Adventures That You Absolutely Can't
Get Unless You're a Dog!".

Jan's work has also been featured in the Boston Globe.

Bark Magazine has featured one of Jan's quilts in their August 2008 issue. Jan created a portrait quilt of Nellie, the late dog of the founders of Bark, and the original cover-dog of Bark Magazine. Nellie died in July 2007. See Dog Portrait Page for this portrait of Nellie. Jan was thrilled to see her quilt of Nellie gracing the pages of Bark Magazine's August 2008 issue!
